Jair Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under house arrest.

The ex-president was convicted of planning a military coup in the ninth month and handed more than over two decades in jail, but he continued under confinement pending legal challenges.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the decision to arrest the septuagenarian politician was a precautionary step after "new facts" were revealed.

This involved seeking to disable his ankle monitor and a call for a demonstration that could "allow for a chance to flee".

Judicial Records Show Flight Fears

In a paperwork permitting the arrest, the judge said information from the unit overseeing Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the ex-president's plan to remove the electronic ankle bracelet to guarantee victory in his getaway".

Details of Guilty Verdict
